Sam Neill Recalls Princess Diana Being Terrified At Jurassic Park Premiere

Neill says Princess Diana sat beside him during the Jurassic Park premiere in 1993 and sometimes she would have her hands in front of her eyes. Actor Sam Neill fondly recalls watching the Jurassic Park premiere with Princess Diana. Neill played Dr. Alan Grant in the original Jurassic Park released in 1993 and directed by Steven Spielberg. Neill then returned for Jurassic Park III. He has since refrained from a return to the series until this 2022s Jurassic World: Dominion where Dr. Alan Grant will grace the big screen once more.

Neills role as Dr. Alan Grant became iconic in the Jurassic series. Known for his brilliance but extreme distaste for technology Alan Grant is well-loved in the Jurassic universe. Neill is joined by former Jurassic Park co-star Laura Dern in Jurassic World: Dominion. Dern plays Dr. Ellie Sattler in the original Jurassic Park reprising the character for the first time in the Jurassic World trilogy much like Neill. The iconic pair will share the screen as Jurassic World: Dominion hits theaters on June 10 2022.

Now Neill reveals that he watched the Jurassic Park premiere alongside an even greater icon: Princess Diana. Neill got the opportunity to sit beside Princess Di when she attended the films premiere according to GQ. By that point Neill had already seen the movie three or four times so he could easily split his attention between the film and the shocked reaction of the British royalty beside him. Neill maintains that Princess Diana enjoyed Jurassic Park but that after the screening she was much more interested in talking to Neills then ten-year-old son than she was talking to the actor. Check out the full quote from Neill:

I mustve watched it half a dozen times when we went around the world premiering it and I did enjoy sitting in the theatre and monitoring how people were reacting to it. ... When we went to London I was sitting beside Princess Diana and she was jumping out of her skin. That was fun. Id seen it three or four times by then. So it was really half an eye on the screen and half an eye on her looking at how she was reacting and sometimes she would have her hands in front of her eyes. I mean she really loved it.

Here a legendary 1990s presence reacts to an iconic 90s film. While the actor is calmer about the situation than many would be while watching their movie next to Princess Diana one can tell that a little bit of Neills excitement peaks through. He makes sure to describe how effective the film was on Princess Diana. She seemed to flinch at all the right parts Spielbergs suspense working effectively on the iconic princess.

While Princess Diana will not be able to watch the new Jurassic film Neill will still have a fond memory of this screening experience to carry with him into the screenings of Jurassic World: Dominion. This iconic tale is an excellent reminder of the massive success and cultural iconography status of the original Jurassic Park. Jurassic World: Dominion has the honor of having one of Jurassic Parks major icons Neill inhabit its scenes.
